NOT MUCH HAPPENING SO A LOOK BACK AT WASHINGTON, DC!

I have been living in the DC area for many years now and one of my favorite things to do is walk around the Monuments and take pictures. Lot's and Lot's of pictures, so here is a little retrospective of the way my eye works in the Nations Capital. It is a wonderful place to visit and pay homage to the men, women and events that have molded our Nation into what it is today.

THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL
Over the years this Memorial has grown due to some controversies, it now consists of an additional two works, The Three Soldiers Statue and the Vietnam Women's Memorial are additions to the wall that was constructed in 1982.

The Three Soldiers

The Vietnam Women's Memorial

I can't emphasize enough that if you have never been to DC to visit the Memorials you must do it at some point. They are amazing creations in honor of the men & women they are tribute to.

THE KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL

Faces of War.

Not these two....

THE WASHINGTON, DC CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Although I do not think they qualify as a Memorial, these truly remarkable gifts from Japan are a symbol of the budding US/Japanese relations of the early 1900's. A gift from Tokyo's then Mayor, Yukio Ozaki, they continue to bring an unrivaled beauty to the city's landscape year after year. They attract tourists from around the globe each year for the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the largest annual events in the DC area.

The United States, in return, gifted the Japanese people with flowering Dogwoods. In 1981, the cycle of giving came full circle, Japanese Horticulturalists came to DC to take cuttings from the trees to replace Yoshino Cherry Trees that were destroyed in a flood. In 1999 a new generation of cuttings was planted along the Tidal Basin. The cuttings were taken from a 1500 year old Cherry in Gifu Prefecture (Central Japan).
